Feed-in-Tariff in UK goes live - are you ready for it?

SolarPanelsToday sees the launch of the UK's Government backed Feed-in-Tariff. This gives businesses and homeowners the chance to generate revenue from installing microgeneration technology such as wind turbines and solar photovoltaics. However, the distinct lack of publicity in the media has meant many are unaware of this major introduction and missing out.

The premise of the Feed-in-Tariff is simple. If you install certified renewable technology that is fed back into the grid you will receive a fixed amount for each unit of electricity that you generate regardless of whether you use it or export back. In fact if you do export back the UK Government has pledged a further 5p top-up. This will significantly reduce payback periods for the technology making it attractive to a much wider market.

Rates range across technologies on a sliding scale, typically between 27p and 41p per unit for PV. Full details of the tariffs can be viewed in detail on the DECC site.

Batchelor Electrical has been involved with solar photovoltaic technology for over 5 years as the electrical integrator for Alwitra's Evalon Solar product.
