Batchelor Electrical Contractors get behind the 'We Support Solar' campaign...We-Support-Solar

As reported last month, the 2010 Feed-In-Tariff (FiT) for renewables is fast approaching and if the scheme is fully realised by the UK Government it could finally be an attractive proposition tp many businesses, organisations and consumers as the future of energy supply.

Over 150 MPs and many leading businesses and environmental groups have got behind the Early Day Motion (EDM) 689 'We Support Solar' campaign initiated by the UK Solar PV Manufacturers Association to ensure that the UK gets a fair deal for electricity produced by renewable technology from 2010 under the Feed-In-Tariff scheme.

Currently with grid connected systems producing renewable electricity, such as the Alwitra Evalon Solar photovoltaic roofing, the UK energy companies pay approximately half the market rate (circa 5 per unit). The campaign, however, is pushing for up to 4 times the sell rate (approximately 40p per unit) which will echo other leading European solar countries such as Germany who in 2007 produced over 14% of their electricity from renewable sources such as solar and wind.

The FiT has been prompted due to the UK's quota from the EU for 20% of annual electricity supply by 2020 to be sourced from renewable resource technology. Currently the UK only produces 5% of its electricity this way and is one of very few European countries to not have adopted a Feed-In-Tariff scheme.

Potentially, the Feed-In Tariff (FIT) could offer huge savings to businesses and consumers, drastically reducing payback times and lowering carbon emissions as well as offering a safe, clean and sustainable source of energy. There has never been a better time to look at solar technology and start benefiting from the FiT in 2010.
